Marathon Training: Week 8

January 23, 2009 · Comments

This week was cold. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I struggled a few times this week due to the weather. People in my part of the country really don’t like it very much when it gets below 30 degrees. Saturday I bought my first pair of gloves in years and that helped tremendously. Also, I learned the value of layering.

Perhaps it was due to the weather but for some reason my long run last week was pretty difficult. It was actually a “step back run” of only 14 miles but I had to force myself to the finish. Also on this run I tried my first packet of Gu. Honestly, I can’t say I’m a fan. For my long run this week I plan to use Clif Shot Blocks instead. They are much tastier and still give me the calories I’ll need to finish. By the way, my long run this week will be the longest of all my training runs before I start to taper down my mileage to rest for the race. This weekend I’ll have to log an intimidating 20 miler. Hopefully, all will go well. The course I mapped out is a monster. I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen.

This week’s mileage:

Monday: ultimate frisbee
Tuesday: 5 mi
Wednesday: 10 mi
Thursday: 5 mi
Friday: rest
Saturday: 20 mi
Sunday: rest
