Running a marathon has always been a goal of mine. Even before I became interested in fitness, I always admired the extreme endurance that was required to run 26.2 miles. In the back of my mind I always wished that I could someday complete a marathon even though I was never a runner. Now, with over a year and a half of consistent running logged, I feel compelled to take it to the next level. I am training for a marathon.
However, I am going to have to train for it in a way that most doctors wouldn’t recommend. Last week I realized that my city’s marathon was 12 weeks away – a good 6 weeks shorter than the normal recommended training for first time marathoners. So, after much consideration and a week’s worth of preliminary runs I have decided to just go for it.
I’m pretty excited and nervous about the next 3 months. Since I’m only on my second week of training, and I only have 11 left to go, I really can’t afford to skip many runs due to sickness or injury. Any more knee problems like I experienced last month and the whole plan is out the window. But, if I can continue with my own schedule and avoid any major hindrances then I really think I can do it.
(I really don’t want this to seem like I’m boasting or anything but I felt that if I posted this message here then I’d have a greater sense of accountability to stick with it. So, let the craziness begin!)
