Over the weekend I ran in my second 10K. It was a local event but drew over 1500 runners. I ran this same race a year ago (and trained excessively for it). This year, however was even better. I beat my time from last year by almost 11 minutes and had a blast doing it. Here’s a quick list of why local race events are awesome and why you should be participating.
-Training for a race will keep you accountable
-Running with others is fun
-Running with others pushes you to go farther and faster
-Meet new and interesting people
-Free t-shirts
-Free food and drinks
-Explore your city from a different point of view
-It’s fun to do something different
-Get an accurate measure of your speed and pace
-It feels great to participate in something with your community
-Crossing a finish line with hundreds of strangers screaming for you feels incredible.
