Quick Fit Tip: Gatorade Bottle in Cup Holder

August 5, 2008 · Comments

Let’s face it. The guy who designed the famous Gatorade bottle never
meant for it to be easily held in a car’s cup holder. Whether or not
this guy was a masochistic jerk who wanted people’s cars to be stained
with spilled sports drink or just a failed ergonomics engineer, we’ll
never know. All we can surmise is that for one reason or another the
dimensions of the bottom half of the Gatorade bottle WILL NEVER FIT into
any standard automobile cup holder… EVER. This makes for awkward
post-exercise drinking and driving to say the least.

To remedy this often experienced problem I toyed with a number of possibilities:
- brutally modify my car’s cup holder to broaden the circumference of holdable beverage
- pour all Gatorade into a third party container that can fit into my designated cup holder
- attempt to hold sports drink bottle between my legs while driving.

All of these ideas, however, proved to be terrible remedies when I finally realized the bottle’s own secret solution: Turn it upside down!

By simply flipping the bottle over you can make any bottle of Gatorade (or other ill-sized sports drink container) easily fit into practically any standard sized cup holder! If you’ve never shared my frustration of trying to fit such a bottle into a holder much too small for it then you probably won’t understand my excitement here. However, if you too have spilled countless bottles of rainbow colored beverage over your otherwise clean, beige interior then take heart, turn the bottle over, and enjoy the security that cup holders were made for. Just make sure the lid is on tight first.
