Reasons to Get Fit

It seems that this is the general time of the year when everyone has the urge to get their fitness on. Whether it’s because of the pretty weather, or the fact that it’s almost bathing suit season, loads of people will be getting on their treadmills for one reason or another. However, if you feel yourself being a little sluggish to start up with your own fitness program, here are my top 4 reasons for why you need to start getting in shape.

1) Your Health
Without a doubt, eating right and exercising are two of the biggest things you can do for your overall health. Losing weight reduces the risk of virtually every serious illness that currently plagues this country. Heart disease, diabetes, depression, various forms of cancer and many more afflictions can be prevented by treating your body right.

2) Your Appearance
This should go without saying, but if appearances are important to you at all, then you will find fitness rewarding. Once you begin to notice a difference in the mirror, I guarantee that you will be hooked on fitness for life. Now, I don’t want to condone our ultra superficial society, or recommend becoming a skin and bones super model, but an improved confidence in your appearance can really go a long way.

3) Your Well Being
This is closely tied to the first two points but is also important. Being on an effective program toward fitness has a great effect on your general well being. It just feels good. I experience far fewer headaches, have formed an addicting running habit, and am all around less stressed out when compared to the me of last year.

4) Your Friends and Family (it’s contagious)
Lastly, when you get in shape people will notice. It may start out as a few discouraging comments from your family, but eventually, you may notice those same people asking you for advice. You may even see a few of those same friends and family begin their own fitness plans. It feels good to improve yourself, but even better when you know you have affected others as well.
