Whenever I am feeling unmotivated to keep up the fitness plan, I often have to stop and reset my goals. It is quite hard to just say your aiming for 40 pounds of weight loss. A figure that high is pretty intimidating. I like to set goals for no more than 5 or 10 pounds. This way you’ll have a better chance of making those goals in only a few weeks or months. Plus, the added encouragement of achieving those goals will help you to keep going.
Another way to keep focused is to participate in a group exercise activity. This will keep you accountable to exercising and it will give you motivation to train. A few weeks ago, I signed up for my first 5K street race. At the time I couldn’t come close to running a 5K, but knowing that I had already put my money down and told people about it kept me motivated to train.
The race is tomorrow morning and even though I’m a little nervous, I know that I have put in enough training to finish the race in a good time. After I complete the 5K, I begin training for a 10K next month. The constant progression is what keeps my motivation up and encourages me. See you at the finish line.
